Chillingham is famous its castle, renowned as the most haunted castle in the United Kingdom, and also its unique herd of wild cattle. Chillingham is perfectly located for access to the Cheivots and the beautiful Northumberland Coast.
Chillingham Castle is a 12th century stronghold is the home of Sir Humphry Wakefield and his family. In the heart of Northumberland the castle was the first line of defence, preventing the Scots getting over the border to invade England back in hte days of William Wallace when the castle was ruled over by King Edward I. Steeped in amazing, yet horrific history and that is why it is one of the most haunted places on Earth.
The castle is home to a number of ghosts, including The Blue Boy, Lady Mary, tourtured child, the Royal procession and so many other famous stories. |Chillingham Wild Cattle|
The Wild Cattle of Chillingham are said to be the only survivors of the wild herds which once roamed Britains forests. Today they live in a beautiful enclosed Park at Chillingham, their home for 800 years.
The herd numbers around 100 beasts, making them rarer than the Giant Pandas. The unique beasts fight for the chance to mate, any weak members are gored to death.
The Cheviots includes a large portion of the Northumberland National Park which is one of the least populated of all the UK's national parks put together.
